Our last visit to Margaret Rive from Pert was last Autumn. It was a magical time to visit there because of the friendly weather and the green of its landscapes. We went there for easter and found lost of great activities to do with the family. it is important that you book in advance any campsite or Airbnb, this season is quite busy as lots of families from all around Australia come to spend the holiday season there.
This time we focus our visit on enjoying food and more relaxing spots, as we were travelling with our mum, it was clear to us that we needed to have a more relaxing holiday.

What is the weather like in the Autumn in Margaret River?
Margaret River is less crowded in autumn, however, at the beginning it can be mild and you still get to enjoy of the beaches and snorkeling spots. It is a popular time for food and wine lovers, thanks to seasonal produce and vintage celebrations.

Our favourite places to visit during autumn in Margaret River
1. Cowaramup: A Quirky Stop with Country Charm

Cowaramup is a small town that packs a lot of personality, just 12 km north of Margaret River. Often nicknamed “Cow Town”, it’s impossible to miss the quirky life-sized cow statues scattered throughout the main street. There are lots of great shops and cafes where you can spend time meting locals.

- Local artisan stores, selling everything from handmade soap to gourmet cheese.
- A relaxed country atmosphere, ideal for a stroll, a coffee, and a browse.

2. Mammoth Cave: A Journey Underground

Located along Caves Road, about 20 minutes south of Margaret River, Mammoth Cave is one of the most accessible caves in the region. It is ideal if you are visiting with family and elderly parents. A self-guided audio tour that lets you explore at your own pace.
You will find ancient limestone formations, fossils, and a dramatic underground river. There are raised footpaths that makes it accessible and safe for all ages.
At the end of the tour there is a lovely short forest walk to return back to the carpark.

3. The Sunflower Farm: A Wholesome Visit

If you’re visiting with kids or just love animals you must go to the Sunflower Animal Farm & Farmstay. It is located just a 10 minutes north to Margaret River town. You can enjoy spending time with the animals a t the farm, also you might have the chance to help with the feeding times which are at 10 am and 4 pm. Be ready for a hands-on experience where you can feed, pat, and interact with over 350 animals: goats, pigs, alpacas, chickens, kangaroos, and more.

4. Dunsborough

Dunsborough is a charming seaside town located about 45 minutes north of Margaret River. it has a magical combination between relaxing vibes and great shopping experiences. There are plenty of opportunities to do jetskying, swimming or shopping. We love Dunsborough because of its long and shallow beach, we could even see some people sitting on little island formations at the beach, having a beer and enjoying of the sun.

- Meelup Beach: Is a perfect for a swim or picnic. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region.
- Boutique shopping: Local art, fashion, and homewares fill the main strip.
- Ice cream and food at ELSKI Danish ice cream.
4. Busselton: The Iconic Jetty and Family Fun

Just a 30-minute drive from Dunsborough, Busselton is home to the famous Busselton Jetty — the longest wooden-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere!
Things to Do in Busselton
Walk or take the train on the jetty
It is a 1.8 km long Jetty. You can walk or catch the train and enjoy of the beauty of the sun and the sea. you might be able to spot some dolphins hanging around. for trains and 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM for tours.
During summer, trains run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and in winter, the schedule shifts from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The round trip ticket is only $18 AUD
Underwater Observatory
Visit the Underwater Observatory at the end of the jetty to see coral and fish without getting wet. the Busselton Jetty Day Pass, cost $38AUD for adults and $23AUD for children between 5-17y/o.
5. Margaret River Chocolate Company

You can’t go to Margaret River Region without visiting the Margaret River Chocolate Factory, located only 20 minutes away from the Margaret River town. At the factory you can choose from of product to choose from and you can also taste some chocolates for free.
It is great for a family visit and get some souvenirs for your family, you can also have the chance to watch how to chocolate is being made.
6. Shopping in Margaret River Town

Back in the town of Margaret River, you’ll find a mix of:
- Local boutiques, perfect for handmade gifts, surf gear, and eco-friendly products.
- Gourmet food stores and organic grocers delicatessen.
- Art galleries and Indigenous craft shops, showcasing local talent and culture, jewelry and personal care products.
Spring is the perfect time to stroll around town — with live music, street markets, and flowers in bloom, the whole area feels alive.
Final Thoughts
Margaret River is always a great destination for everyone. There are lots of options for you to enjoy with your partner and family. We spent a great time with our Mother and enjoyed of the nature, good food and a relaxing time.
